This may be a bit of French design history which you were previously unaware of, but you will certainly find this story interesting.
Pierre Disterot was a Parisian born in 1920. He studied electrical engineering and had a good eye for design. Initially, she followed the classic styles of the 1940s, but he soon found that it didn’t quite fit his personality so he diverged from this and in the 1950s opened his own studio with innovative new lighting designs.
He collaborated with two other designers Pierre Guariche and Joseph-André Motte. Together they created iconic lights which defined them as progressive and modern.
We found some of these and were really excited. It led us down the rabbit whole of their whole design ideas and culture.
Strangely enough we then came across these:
These are similar but different!
We have searched and searched and have not found a single set of lights that are the same. This obviously led us to think that perhaps the shades were not supposed to be with this wall fitting – but we cannot find either of these separately either. Now you may well be wondering why we think they are connected to Pierre Guarich – well there are several reasons. The first reason is the style, this fits perfectly with his other work; the colour combinations and shapes are definitely his. Secondly, these came from the same house as the others. The couple who owned it had a daughter in Paris and we think that she bought them as gifts for her parents. It all ties together perfectly…. but if you know anything else about them we would love to hear from you!
